What is the Kingdom of God?
The concept of the Kingdom of God is not new. It was the mission of Jesus Christ, our Lord, to usher in the Kingdom. His message was all about the Kingdom!!! In His first discourse about the Kingdom in John 3, He told Nicodemus how to see and how to enter into the Kingdom.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus mission and message was The Kingdom of God.
From that point on, His entire ministry was to preach and teach about the Kingdom. This is clearly seen throughout the gospels.
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Matthew 4:17, 23
Our Lord Jesus was so passionate about the Kingdom that He made this statement: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need (Matthew 6:33 NLT.) The Kingdom of God is to be our first priority and yet what do we really know about it???
Myles Munroe wrote several books about the Kingdom of God. This statement defines what a kingdom is:
“A kingdom is the sovereign rulership and governing influence of a king over his territory, impacting it with his will, his intent, and his purpose; manifesting a culture and society reflecting the king’s nature, values and morals.”
Myles Munroe, Understanding Your Place in God’s Kingdom
Jesus is our King and we, as born-again citizens of His Kingdom are to be influenced and impacted by His will, His Intent, and His purpose. And we are to manifest His nature, values, and morals. This is the Kingdom here and now!!! It’s the way we think, the way we live, and the influence we have in this world. That’s why it is imperative that we repent–the first step many of us have missed. Repent in the Greek is metanoeō which means to change one’s mind. We have to change the way we think to God’s way of thinking. We have to develop a Kingdom mindset.
The apostle, Paul, admonished us in Romans 12:2:
And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
Everything we say and everything we do should reflect the Kingdom.
Everything we say and everything we do should be a reflection of our King and His Kingdom, influencing the world around us with His Grace and Truth. The Word tells us that we are to be lights in this world dispelling the darkness and enlightening the world with the Truth. God has given us the grace to do this, but in order to do it, we must know the Truth ourselves. It is our reponsibility to submit to the transforming power of Holy Spirit as He does the work in our hearts. His work is to transform us into the image of Christ and to enable us to think like He thinks and to do what He did. The Kingdom message is not just that Jesus died for us, but that He is alive in us. We are here in this earth realm to manifest the Glory of His Kingdom!
