I have been praying about the condition of the church in her apathetic and complacent attitude about the things of God, and asking God for tactics and strategies to loose His people from the strongholds that are hindering them from living as the victorious Kingdom ambassadors that they actually are. I was led to meditate on Revelation 3, the Laodicean church, who were described by the Lord as lukewarm. He rebuked them harshly, stating that they had been deceived into believing that they were rich and in need of nothing. He revealed their true condition as being wretched and miserable and poor and blind. He told them that they need to buy three things from Him (it’s going to cost you something!) and to repent in order to come again into right relationship with Him. Then He did something so loving and compassionate that it truly amazes me! He invited them to answer His knock on the door of their hearts and allow Him to come in and fellowship with Him. Even after rebuking them and calling them to account, His Love for them compelled Him to reach out and offer them the opportunity for fellowship and intimacy.
Behold, I stand at the door [of the church] and continually knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him (restore him), and he with Me. Rev. 3:20 (AMP)
The other thing that stood out in my mind is in verse 22:
The one whose heart is open let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is saying now to the churches. Rev. 3:22 (The Passion Translation)
But see how it is paraphrased in the Message Bible:
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches.”
To each of the seven churches the Lord Jesus repeats these words. “Are your ears awake?” He is speaking to us, His church! I am the church!!! You are the church!!! Are your ears awake? Listen, He says. Listen and hear the Wind Words that are even now blowing through the churches.
The church has indulged itself to the point of falling asleep and has become compromised with the world. Now is the time to awake out of sleep! Paul says to the Roman church:
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation isnearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Romans 13:11-12
Isaiah 52 says it like this:
Wake up, wake up, O Zion! Clothe yourself with strength. Put on your beautiful clothes, O holy city of Jerusalem, for unclean and godless people will enter your gates no longer. Rise from the dust, O Jerusalem. Sit in a place of honor. Remove the chains of slavery from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion. Isaiah 52:1-2 (The Passion Translation)
Our Lord’s message to the church is clear. It is time to awake and to do what must be done in order to take our position in relationship with Him. How long must He stand at your door and knock? Are your ears awake?
